About Us

Totaling more then 50 years of search and rescue experiences in the North Okanagan!

Since 1960, Vernon Search and Rescue have been dedicated in providing search and rescue service to British Columbia.

Through Emergency Management BC (EMBC), formerly the Provincial Emergency Program, VSAR may also be called upon to assist the BC Ambulance Service, local Fire Departments, BC Forestry Service and also support other SAR teams throughout the Province refereed to as Mutual Aid.

We have approximate 65 volunteers that are on call 24 hours a days, 365 days a year. Our members are from all walks of life.

What We Do

Steadily increasing over the years our response number now average well over 40 tasks a year.

Vernon Search and Rescue

We are involved in but not limited to: ground searches, water searches, rescues, recoveries for the Coroner’s Services, RCMP evidence searches and civil emergencies the likes of fire or flooding evacuations.

We search in all types of weather conditions, every day of the year. During the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter, in the wind, rain, fog and snow.

At Vernon SAR we are very active in training at varying disciplines that enhance our skills so we are prepared and safe to operate in the challenging environment that surrounds us here in the North Okanagan. We carry out regular training, among others, at Okanagan Lake, Mabel Lake, Shuswap River and the various other terrains.

Our "area" covers over 7500 square kilometers
